Once again this year, Supply Value has conducted the IT Trends Research. In this research, we ask professionals working in or with IT about the expected IT trends for the upcoming year. We not only identify these trends but also examine their relevant applications within IT and their impact on the business. This year, the IT Trends Research has a renewed setup, with a focus on the developments and applications of IT trends. The purpose of this research is to support information management and technology professionals in setting priorities and determining the right focus. Below, you will find the top 10 IT trends for the coming year.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Last year, we looked at the developments brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that we are becoming more accustomed to the new reality, it is a good time to look forward with fresh perspectives. Comparing an IT department from ten years ago to today, one would immediately notice the tremendous differences. Not only has the scale at which we currently work with IT increased significantly, but also the value, role, and positioning of IT have undergone substantial changes. You could say that the IT field is just out of its adolescence and is becoming more mature: the prioritization of thinking before acting is evident in this year\u2019s top 3 trends. The main added value that IT delivers for organizational objectives in 2023 is the desire to get things right the first time.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Trends 2023<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Security Awareness<\/strong>\u00a0has taken the first place in the IT Trends Research. Respondents indicate that it is crucial to eliminate as many vulnerabilities as possible and ensure the most robust continuity of IT and, consequently, the organization. Security Awareness also remains highly important for the reliability of services provided to customers and chain partners. The top 3 of the IT Trends Research is further complemented by\u00a0Data-Driven Decision Making<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Business Intelligence<\/strong>. With Data-Driven Decision Making, data from the entire organization is collected and analyzed before making decisions, providing more certainty and an overview of the entire organization. Business Intelligence also involves consistently using information and knowledge to make better decisions, supporting the business with data-driven work.<\/p>\r\n

\"Publication<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Data Cleaning & Preparation<\/strong>\u00a0(4) and In- and\u00a0Outsourcing<\/strong>\u00a0(5) follow the top 3 in the IT Trends Research. Data Cleaning and Preparation ensure that data can be used accurately within the organization. Cleaning up data is a challenging and time-consuming task. Regarding In- and Outsourcing, the decision of what IT to keep in-house and what to outsource is becoming increasingly important. Explicitly designing an IT sourcing strategy is getting more priority.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Supply Chain Optimization<\/strong>\u00a0(6) and\u00a0Data Governance<\/strong>\u00a0(7) are in the second half of the top 10 IT trends. Optimal setup of the supply chain is considered a high priority by more than half of the respondents. Data Governance is frequently mentioned as a top priority within organizations.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Robotic Process Automation<\/strong> ranks 8th and is mainly used by respondents for repetitive manual work to increase efficiency and save costs. Big Data and Digital Leadership are tied at the 9th spot. About three-quarters of the respondents are fairly to very familiar with Big Data. It will mostly be used for analysis and optimization purposes, aligning well with the high scores of data-driven decision-making and business intelligence. Digital Leadership is about the effective use of new technologies by the (increasingly scarce) professional.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
