Logistics improvement projects play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving the overall performance of organizations in both the public and private sectors. These projects often address challenges related to warehousing, transport, or workforce management—key aspects of any physical operation. While the importance of these projects is widely acknowledged, they are not always completed. Successful implementation requires a deep understanding of the factors that can positively or negatively impact project outcomes.
At Supply Value, we have successfully completed a wide range of logistics improvement projects in both the public and private sectors. This experience led us to analyze the factors that contributed to these successes and those that posed risks.
The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the key factors that promote or hinder logistics improvement projects. Additionally, we explore whether there are clear differences between the public and private sectors regarding these factors.
To answer these questions, we conducted a two-phase study. In the first phase, we interviewed consultants from our public and private sector teams to identify a broad range of factors that influence logistics improvement projects, both positively and negatively. In the second phase, we distributed a survey within our network to quantify and assess the impact of these factors. This approach allowed us to gather both qualitative and quantitative insights into the success and failure factors in logistics projects. Curious to dive deeper?
