How data-driven is your organisation?

The Data Maturity Model (DMM) is an advanced framework that Supply Value uses to map your organisation’s data-drivenness. It provides insight into how organisations can develop data as a strategic value. As well as information provision. The outcome of the model consists of five levels of data maturity, ranging from level 1 (basic) to level 5 (optimised). Each represents an increasingly sophisticated and effective use of data. Not only the maturity level is mapped but also the sub-areas where actions can be taken. Such as data, processes, organisation and policy and technology.

The DMM was developed by the Data Governance Institute (DGI). A global professional organisation that promotes best practices in data governance and management. The model was used for the questionnaire compiled by Supply Value and is based on the premise that data is a valuable resource, can improve decision-making, increase operational efficiency and which can drive an organisation’s growth when managed and used effectively.

The five maturity levels of DMM are as follows:

1 Basic: At this level, an organisation has a limited understanding of its data and may not have a formal structure for data management. Data may be in silos and not easily accessible and little or no use can be made of data analytics or data-driven decision-making.

2 Repeatable: At this level, an organisation has basic data management processes in place and may have a data dictionary or catalogue to document its datasets. Data is beginning to be used for reporting and basic analysis, but may still be siloed and not fully integrated across the organisation.

3 Defined: At this level, an organisation has a more formalised structure and processes for data management, including defined roles and responsibilities for that data management. Data is used for more sophisticated analysis and decision-making, and there is a greater focus on data quality and integrity.

4 Managed: At this level, an organisation has a mature data governance structure and a strong focus on data quality and integrity. Data is integrated throughout the organisation and used for strategic decision-making and business planning. There is also a greater emphasis on data security and privacy.

5 Optimised: At this level, an organisation has fully integrated and optimised the use of data across the organisation. Data is treated as a strategic tool to drive business growth and innovation, for example. There is a strong focus on data-driven work and continuous improvement in data management.

The DMM can be used by organisations to assess their current level of data maturity, benchmark and identify strategic and operational areas for improvement. By filling in the form below, you will be contacted by Supply Value and set up a no-obligation appointment to complete the survey together. The report will then be discussed with you.
