Once again, Supply Value has conducted the IT Trends Research this year. In this research, we explore the upcoming IT trends according to IT professionals, the IT applications they see in their business, and the developments within these trends. Below, you will find the top 10 IT trends for the upcoming year. Starting from last year, the research not only includes the trends themselves but also assesses the value of these trends for the (business) objectives of organizations.

Last year, COVID-19 was the major event that held the world in its grip. Now, more than a year later, we have become accustomed to the presence of COVID-19, but we still regularly face the uncertainty and variability of the circumstances in which we work.

In this context, it is very understandable that Cyber and Data Security remains the top priority for organizations, holding a strong first place. In fact, the awareness and importance of this IT Trend have clearly increased further, and respondents attach even more significance to the secure protection of data and technologies. The top 3 of the IT Trends Research is completed by two other trends that were also seen in the same positions last year, namely Data and Cloud, ranking second and third, respectively. Compared to the previous year, respondents are giving higher priority again to Cyber and Data Security. As a result, Cloud has slightly lost its importance for respondents, while Data continues to grow, gaining more recognition and priority among respondents, thus surpassing Cloud.

Following this, Digital Transformation and IT Development Renewal exchange positions from last year but remain strong contenders in the IT Trends Research as ‘softer’ trends. This also indicates that organizations not only focus on technological developments but also prioritize the organization and processes surrounding IT and the people working within and around it.

The second half of the ranking starts with the trends of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things, ranked sixth and seventh. These trends are gaining recognition and priority, but organizations haven’t given them extra significance yet. Similarly, we see the trends of BlockchainIndustry 4.0, and Quantum Computing slowly gaining recognition and priority, maintaining positions eight, nine, and ten in the IT Trends Research for now. Especially with Blockchain and Quantum Computing, we are still waiting for a major breakthrough, but these trends are gradually gaining awareness among the general public.
