A closer look reveals that organizations need a comprehensive strategy that focuses on the connections between emerging trends. Respondents identified an average of 62% of trends as relevant to very relevant, reflecting the complexity of the IT landscape. This emphasizes the critical need for an integrated IT portfolio—one that balances the pursuit of new opportunities with proactive management of the risks posed by these technological developments.

The tenth and ninth positions are occupied by DevOps and Chain Optimisation with IT. DevOps builds on Agile thinking, but specifically focuses on collaboration between development teams (Dev) and operational teams (Ops) responsible for software. Chain Optimisation with IT represents a broad application of (potentially) multiple trends.

Chain Optimisation with IT is followed by In- and Outsourcing / Directional organisation at spot eight and Cloud Computing at spot seven. In- and Outsourcing / Directional Organisation, is about the trade-off that organisations have to make about which IT activity they continue to do themselves and which are outsourced, while Cloud Computing offers continuity, quality, flexibility and security in information management.

Machine Learning ranks sixth, solidifying its position as a core technology driving data-driven decision-making, process optimization, and enhanced accuracy for organizations.

Big Data & Data Analytics and Business Intelligence (BI) complement the top five. Big Data & Data Analytics emphasizes the need to effectively manage and leverage the ever-increasing volume of data, while BI can be seen as the broad domain of translating raw data into meaningful information.

In third place, Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Security Awareness remain vital pillars in today’s interconnected world, safeguarding sensitive data and critical systems against evolving threats. Together, these trends underline the importance of building a resilient and secure IT foundation.

Ranked second, Data Governance & Compliance highlights the ongoing commitment to maintaining data quality and adhering to regulations.

The leading position of Data-Driven Decision-Making reflects a clear shift: organizations are prioritizing data management and focusing on its effective application.
