It is no secret that supply chains in the apparel industry generate significant amounts of packaging waste. Particularly since most of it is transported in cardboard. This creates huge environmental and sustainability challenges. In addition, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) proposal requires 65% of packaging to be recyclable by 2025, and as much as 75% for paper and cardboard.
We investigated the potential of Reusable Transport Packaging (RTP) as a sustainable solution within the apparel industry supply chain. By applying RTP, fashion retailers can reduce their reliance on single-use packaging, improve material efficiency and minimise waste production.
What makes this research extra interesting is that RTP has not yet been fully studied in the context of the apparel industry and it has limited applications in supply chains within this sector. In this whitepaper, we reveal the key factors for successfully implementing RTP in both B2B and B2C fashion supply chains. We share insights on drivers, barriers and critical success factors (CSFs) that drive RTP adoption. Did you know that changing the disposal behaviour of today’s consumers is the biggest barrier to reusable packaging?
